    The Dragon Boat Race

There are some events that remind us martial arts are about much more than training in the dojang.

Our Dragon Boat Race on 11 June 2020 was one of those special occasions.

Students, families and friends from CMBBA travelled to Pitsford Reservoir to take part in a charity dragon boat event, enjoying a fantastic day together while helping to raise money for a worthwhile cause.

The weather could not have been better. Sunshine, plenty of laughter and a real team spirit made the whole day memorable from start to finish.

The competition itself produced plenty of excitement, with Peter Ives, who regularly practises at Pitsford Reservoir, helping his team achieve victory in the race.

Perhaps the funniest moment of the day came when Simran Kaur Forbear attempted to stand up in the dragon boat. Despite years of practising her black-belt balance, gravity had other ideas and she promptly found herself taking an unexpected swim! It certainly gave everyone something to laugh about for the rest of the afternoon.

Of course, no CMBBA gathering would be complete without good food. There were plenty of pork pies, refreshing lemonade and lots of opportunities for everyone to sit together, relax and enjoy each other’s company after the racing had finished.

As academy member Olive Spence said:

“It’s good to do work for charity.”

Those simple words perfectly summed up the spirit of the day.

At CMBBA we believe martial arts help to build confidence, discipline and respect, but they also create friendships that extend far beyond the training hall. Community events like this allow everyone—from beginners to black belts—to spend time together, support good causes and enjoy being part of something special.

If you’re looking for more than just martial arts training, we’d love to welcome you to the CMBBA family.

We hope to see you at our next community event.
